Reading Reaps Rewards

Newport Rotary has funded the Reading Reaps Rewards Program. This is a collaboration between the Newport Public Schools, the Newport Partnership for Families, and various community agencies.  This collective sponsors summer literacy programs at the Newport Public Schools Summer Learning Academies, the Martin Luther King Center, and the Boys & Girls Club's Camp Grosvenor.  Through experiential learning activities, the program provides fun and engaging activities for children ages 5-13 that help them maintain and in many instances improve their literacy skills over the summer months.  Last summer, over 70% of the 250 children enrolled in the program maintained or improved their reading skills.
